FAQ

Questions

How do I extract text from a website?

Copy the page's address, paste it above and press Get text. You get the page's main text, in reading order, without the HTML, scripts, menus or footer. Copy it with one press, or download it as a .txt file.

How do I copy text from a website that won't let me select it?

Paste its link here. Sites that block selecting or right-clicking do it with a script or a style, but the text is still in the page they send. This tool reads it from there, so you can copy all of it at once.

How do I give ChatGPT or Claude the text of a web page?

Get the text here, press Copy text and paste it into the chat with your question. The token count shows roughly how much of the model's context it takes. It's an estimate at 4 characters per token, the usual rule of thumb for English, so real counts differ by model and language.

Does it work on JavaScript sites?

On pages that send their text in the HTML, which is most articles, docs, blogs, news and shop pages, yes. It doesn't run JavaScript, so an app that builds its page in your browser comes back empty, and a site that shows a “Checking your browser” screen first comes back blocked. The tool says which, and those failures don't use a try. Developers can load such pages in a real browser with the API's Render endpoint.

Is it free? How many tries do I get?

Yes. You get 5 free tries a day without an account. Sign up free for 100 credits, plus a top-up to 25 every day. No card needed. Each page uses one try, or 1 credit with an account. Pages we can't get, blocked or down, don't count.

Does it keep links and tables?

It keeps the words. Link text stays and the addresses go. Each table row stays on its own line with its cells separated by tabs, so it pastes into a spreadsheet as columns. To keep links, headings, lists and tables, use Website to markdown.

Does it work on paywalled or login pages?

No. It fetches public pages only, the way a logged-out visitor sees them. A paywalled article gives you whatever the site shows before the paywall, and a page behind a login gives you its sign-in page. Addresses on private networks, like localhost or 192.168.x.x, are refused.

Why are the menus and footer missing?

You get the page's main content: the part the site marks as its main content, or its articles, with the page's title on top. Menus, sidebars, the header and footer, cookie banners and hidden text are left out. A page that marks none of that comes back whole, without the parts it does mark as menus.

Can it read PDFs?

No. It reads web pages and plain text files, like .txt, .json or .md. A link to a PDF, an image or another file says what it is and shows no text, and it still uses a try, because we had to fetch it to find out.

Can I extract text from many pages at once?

Yes, with the API: one request per page to /v1/web/fetch with format=text, main=true and your API key, 1 credit each. It also works inside Claude and ChatGPT as an MCP connector.

For developers

Need this at scale?

This tool is one request to the LurkAPI Fetch a page (plain request) endpoint. Call it from your own code, a spreadsheet script, or let Claude and ChatGPT call it as a connector.

One request · 1 credit
